I have practised traffic law since I began my career as a lawyer and have many years of experience in dealing with the relevant authorities and insurance companies.
In traffic law in particular, it is very important to keep the bigger picture in mind. Regulations from various areas of law interplay here: criminal and administrative penalty provisions, civil liability issues and insurance law matters. Amidst this flood of regulations, which are governed by a wide variety of laws, the interrelationships must always be taken into account.

Legal fees
Before you sign a power of attorney I will inform you about my fees. I will explain to you in detail the minimum and maximum costs involved in your case.
In many cases, there is a statutory standard for lawyers’ fees, the “RVG-Mittelgebühr”. It applies unless expressly agreed otherwise. Any higher costs will require a separate written agreement. I will only propose such a fee arrangement in exceptional circumstances, for example if the case is particularly complex or time-consuming.
If you are entitled to legal aid I will submit the necessary applications.

When should I contact a lawyer?
As soon as you receive correspondence from the police, the public prosecutor, a court or an insurance company. The sooner you seek legal advice, the better you can avoid making mistakes.
Is the initial telephone assessment free of charge?
Yes. The initial telephone consultation regarding this matter is always free of charge. Legal fees are only incurred once you have signed a letter of instruction.
How much does legal representation cost?
The costs are explained transparently before you engage our services. These are usually based on the Lawyers’ Fees Act (RVG-Mittelgebühr). You will be informed in advance of the minimum costs involved and the maximum amount they may reach.
Where is the office located?
The office is located in Berlin-Mitte, a short walk from Berlin-Hauptbahnhof. The office consists of four lawyers.
Questions about criminal law
What should I do if I am the accused?
Do not comment on the matter at this stage. A defence usually begins with access to the case file. Only then can a sound decision be made as to which strategy is appropriate.
Do I have to attend a police summons?
As a suspect, you are not obliged to comply with a police summons. You should consult a lawyer beforehand to find out how you should respond.
What happens after an indictment or a summary penalty order?
It is then necessary to quickly assess which deadlines are approaching and what defence strategy would be appropriate. Depending on the case, options may include lodging an appeal, seeking a dismissal, reaching a settlement, or mounting a defence in court.
Do you also take on serious criminal cases?
Yes. I also defend suspects of serious crimes such as homicide or murder. I also defend clients accused of other severe crimes such as robbery or extortion.
Do you also represent victims of crime?
Yes. As the victim of a serious crimes you are entitled to your own legal representation. In many cases this will be covered by legal aid.
How much does the average criminal case cost?
In an average criminal case, the costs under the lawers fees act (RVG) are typically around €800 to €1,200. The exact amount will be explained in advance.
Questions about traffic law
When do I need a lawyer specialising in traffic law?
In the event of road traffic accidents, fines, driving bans, speeding offences, red light offences, hit-and-run incidents, drink-driving or drug-driving, and the withdrawal of a driving licence.
What should I do after a road traffic accident?
Document the damage, secure evidence and have your case assessed by a lawyer. In the event of an accident that was not your fault, the other party’s insurance company will usually also have to cover your legal costs.
Is it worth appealing against a fine?
As a general rule, it is worth lodging an appeal if the offence results in an entry in the Driver Suitability Register (Fahreignungsregister – FAER) or if a driving ban is on the cards. Once an appeal has been lodged, I will review the case for measurement errors and procedural irregularities. Even if no such errors are found, it is often still possible to avoid an entry in the register or a driving ban in fine proceedings, or at least to delay them.
What are the consequences of drink-driving or driving under the influence of drugs?
Depending on the charge, the penalties may include a fine, penalty points, a driving ban, a monetary penalty or the withdrawal of your driving licence. Key factors include blood alcohol levels, signs of impairment and the specific nature of the charge.
Will legal expenses insurance cover the costs?
Yes, under road traffic law, it is often possible to claim through legal expenses insurance. This should be checked on a case-by-case basis.
